Wow. Where should I start? Mo Willems' "Knuffle Bunny Free: an
Unexpected Diversion" packs a lot of emotion into a few short pages.
This
story is the final chapter in the series and follows the famous Knuffle
Bunny and Trixie, an adorable duo young readers across the globe have
come to love.
In this tale, Trixie, Knuffle Bunny and her family
travel to Holland to visit Oma and Opa. Somewhere during the long trip,
Knuffle Bunny gets left behind.
This is a tough topic for
children – losing one's favorite toy can cause pain and heartache. (I
can still remember when I lost my much-loved Buddy Bear.) But Trixie,
being the mature girl she is, weathers it well, especially when she has
the opportunity to see her beloved Knuffle Bunny again.
This
truly is a beautiful story, and it closes the series in such a
touching, poignant way that it will warm the hearts of all readers,
young and old.
Willems has a knack for children's books. He
stands out among the growing number of authors who are penning stories
for young ones, and it's stunning to read what he creates. I think it's
safe to say Willems has become one of my favorite children's authors –
and "Knuffle Bunny Free" is among his best works yet.
Be sure to pick it up once it hits stores Sept. 28.
