There I was, holding a clipboard and marking the balls, strikes, runs, hits and errors for a 7-inning game. In fact, I was keeping 2 books – 1 for the officials and 1 for the coach – all while feeding my baby!” Cindy, 43, of Temecula “I was at La Jolla Shores, on the beach in 1969. I was with my in-laws at a picnic, and, believe me, my mother-in-law was not a breastfeeding advocate!” Lola, 61, of Riverside “I nursed everywhere, but the weirdest place was in L.A. at a special museum tour. I think it was the King Tut exhibit at the Getty, and we paid a good price for the tickets. My daughter was really little and needed to nurse – right then! So I walked around with her in my arms nursing as I looked at all the exhibits. I remember I swore to buy a sling the very next day!” Roni, 39, of Corona “Anytime you try to breastfeed anywhere but in the privacy of your own home, it is awkward, even at a friend’s house. The worst for me was when we were eating at a restaurant with another couple. Do I try to feed my son at the table or sitting on the toilet in the restroom? I finally went out and sat in the car in the parking lot, but I missed half the dinner!” Stephanie, 27, of Temecula “My first born was only 4 weeks old and, like a proud mom who didn’t want anything to interrupt an ‘exciting,’ on-the-go lifestyle, my husband and I planned a camping trip in the mountains in the fall. Well, the weather at night dropped to the low 30s, and my little girl was hungry at 4 a.m. So I unwrapped her many blankets, got out of my nice, warm down sleeping bag and began to breastfeed her in the dark. I shivered so much, I thought for sure she was getting her first milk shake!” Lisa, 43, of Banning “The strangest place for me was a deserted hallway in a public library that was under construction at the time. Thank goodness that area had no one about, though it did – thankfully – have a chair close by for me to sit on.” Susan, 42, of Riverside JULY’S QUESTION: “What haven’t you done in your life yet that you still hope to do?” Reply by May 20th: go to: inlandempirefamily.com and click on “Mom’s Day Off” |
