The following thoughts come from you, our readers. Each month, we print the best ones – and one lucky youngster wins a special prize.

By our Inland Empire offspringPublished: April, 2009

Abigail, 3 ½, of Murrieta

LAST MONTH'S WINNER ...
When eating his dinner one evening Nathan asked his dad, “What are chicken strips made of?”
Nathan, 8, Riverside

... AND THE BEST OF THE REST:

Last week on vacation we watched sports on TV. The announcer said that the basketball player tasted defeat. Benjamin looked at us and said, “Why would he want to taste the feet?”
Benjamin, 5, Menifee

My husband and I were treating our granddaughters to a very special night out at Bob’s Big Boy after the birth of their little brother. Feeling very grown up, big sister Aspyn told me she would like to pick out her own meal from the kids menu. When I said I would read the selections to her, she said, “I can read food!” She was very disappointed to discover that Bobs does not offer a picture menu for kids and handed the menu back to me as she stated, “I don’t read words yet.”
Aspyn, 5, Wildomar

My son was 3 years old, and we were in the car driving to a family event about an hour away, when my son tapped on the back of Daddy’s seat and said, “Daddy, the sun is hurting my eyes. Can you turn the moon on?”
Alex, 5, Murrieta

One day I woke up my son really, really early. When I put him in his car seat, he turned to me with his cranky little face and said, “Mamma, I need to go to Starbucks”!
Brandon, 3, San Jacinto

Also from Brandon …
Brandon lost his front tooth at the very young age of 1. So one day while visiting the zoo, one of the workers there pointed to his missing tooth and asked Brandon, “Wow, young man. What happened to your tooth?” Brandon replied, “What tooth? There’s no tooth there, silly!”

It’s customary to say “Grace” before eating anything in our house. Lately I had noticed Abigail folding her hands and bowing her head more than once at the start of each meal. When I mentioned that we only said “Grace” once, she said, “Mommy, I’m ‘Gracing’ my food so it will cool down.” She thought saying “Grace” was how your food cools!
