Tourney benefits abused and neglected children in Temecula Valley

Local nonprofit coordinates annual charity golf tournament

by Caitlin AdamsPublished: September, 2010

Temecula-based Wishes for Children is gearing up for its 7th Annual Wishes for Children Classic Golf Tournament later this month. President and CEO Charlie Pate founded the organization to better serve the children of Temecula Valley, particularly those suffering from abuse, neglect, and terminal illness. Wishes for Children was recently recognized as “Non Profit of the Year” through the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce.

The annual golf tournament is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year; the 2009 tourney raised more than $35,000 for children in need, and organizers are hoping to make this year’s event even better.

Most of the proceeds from the tournament will benefit Rancho Damacitas, a residential facility that cares for abused and neglected children; a portion will go to individual families who need assistance with medical bills, transportation, or other help in caring for a terminally ill child.

The event will be held Saturday, September 17, at Journey at Pechanga. The fee to participate is $350 per player and includes a full day of golf, breakfast, lunch and VIP banquet dinner, as well as a “golfer’s goodie bag.” Tee time is scheduled for 11 AM.
