The Music Center of Los Angeles County has included 11 Inland Empire high school students among the 90 semifinalists in the 20th annual Music Center Spotlight Awards. The semifinalists were chosen from more than 1,200 Southern California students who auditioned in 6 categories: ballet, nonclassical dance, nonclassical voice, classical instrumental and jazz instrumental music.

The local students are Amy Joy Choate of Murrieta and Murrieta Valley High School; Melanie Hansel of Banning and Vineyard Christian; Alice Hwang of Idyllwild and the Idyllwild Arts Academy; Sarah Jackson of Alta Loma and Los Osos High School; Ben Kramer of Lake Elsinore and Orange County High School of the Arts; Taylor Kunysz of Murrieta and Murrieta Valley High School; Jared Marks of Lancaster and the Idyllwild Arts Academy; David
Ordovskiy of Idyllwild and the Idyllwild Arts Academy; Cesar Quintero of Fontana and Fontana A.B. Miller High School; Kara Sainz of Temecula and Murrieta Valley High School; and Athena Sterig of Corona and Buena Vista High School (alternative).

A panel of judges will select 12 finalists this month and the final competition, the Spotlight Awards show, will be held April 26 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.

The Music Center Spotlight Awards distributes more than $100,000 in scholarships annually.
