WRISTBAND FOR SPACE KB Home’s Riverside Division has announced that as NASA prepares to return to flight this summer with the space shuttle Discovery, a promotion has begun to support the effort. The public is invited to any of KB Home’s 14 communities throughout the Riverside area to receive a free commemorative “Discovery 2005” glow-in-the-dark wristband. Other prizes may be won as well. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT A website has been created for youth ages 11-14 to design and build a virtual home with the assistance of an online Frank Lloyd Wright. Architect Studio 3D, working with Wright’s Preservation Trust, has developed the interactive technology. Young would-be designers can think through a single-story home in a number of styles and then furnish the creation with elements such as furniture, light fixtures and wall coverings. Go to: ArchitectStudio3D.org; click on “Design Studio.” UPCOMING CHARITABLE EVENTS Here are two Inland Empire charitable events occurring this month and in August: The Temecula Valley Women’s Club is presenting a Midsummer Afternoon Tea and Fashion Show at 2 p.m. on July 10 at the Temecula Community Recreation Center. The event will feature fashions by Talbots and Macy’s and all proceeds will benefit the Southwest Family YMCA’s building fund. For tickets and information, call 951.677.9622 or 951.699.5021. The Community Center is located at 30875 Rancho Vista Rd. in Temecula. Also, The Leroy Haines Center for Children and Family Services in LaVerne is holding its 9th Annual Golf Tournament Aug. 29 at the Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga. Proceeds from this event will benefit the center’s work with emotionally troubled or abused children. Tournament sponsorships are also available. The entry fee is $325 per player. Call 909.593.2581, Ext. 581 for information. ‘THE WOWZIES’ Quick Start Kids is presenting the “Wowzies,” a series of educational DVDs, videos and CDs featuring furry creatures singing catchy original songs to make learning math, reading, science and music fun. Teachers and the concepts that they seem to have most trouble getting across to children inspire the content for these programs. SCHOLARSHIPS FROM ANGELS Debbie Kay of Redlands and Cheree Heagle of Lake Arrowhead are the first recipients of scholarships to be awarded by Debi Faris-Cifelli, founder of the Garden of Angels, and her husband Steve Cifelli. Since winning the California Lottery last December, the Cifellis have established the Circle of Love Scholarships named for each of the 72 abandoned babies whom Debi Cifelli has given a dignified burial in the Garden of Angels in Calimesa. Kay, 48, is working toward a bachelor’s degree in human services and Heagle, 20, has decided to pursue a career in nursing and medical law. COOLER SHOPPING The Lake Elsinore Outlets center is in the midst of a $4 million renovation designed to provide shoppers with a, cooler more comfortable shopping experience. The renovation, which is expected to be completed in early October, will bring canopies, shade trees, water fountains and breezeways to the mall. The work is being done in various phases in order to impact the shopping experience as little as possible. PROGRAM ATTACKS BULLYING To address an issue of growing concern among teens and parents, the David & Margaret Home in LaVerne has created a Bullying and Harassment Awareness Program. A two-phase pilot project involved students from Claremont High School this spring and was designed to introduce tools to effectively deal with and stop bullying and harassment.
