![]() There’s something to entertain every member of the family at this free event, which will take place on Saturday, March 27. One of Riverside’s most popular events, it attracts thousands of visitors annually; more than 93,000 people attended last year, according to Tom Miller, the air show’s coordinator. “It was huge,” says Miller. “We had great weather, and it’s a great show. It’s good family entertainment.” Fly-bys and stunt acts thrill the crowds throughout the day as pilots perform a variety of demonstrations. Many families bring lawn chairs or camping chairs, so they can sit comfortably and watch the flying acts while munching on snacks and taking pictures. Don’t forget to pack hats and sunscreen – and bring a video camera! Rounding out the show this year are displays of military aircraft and vehicles; a jump show by the Just In Time skydivers; warbird displays, some of which visitors can tour inside; an F-16 fly-by; antique planes displayed by the Commemorative Air Force; helicopter displays; and a demonstration by the Riverside Police Department’s K-9 police dogs. Also on hand will be refreshments, as well as vendors selling novelty clothing, toys, souvenirs and other items. Stunt and military pilots will be on hand to talk to visitors and sign autographs. This year’s air show will feature several stunt acts. A leading entertainer is Jon Melby, a show pilot with more than 32 years of flying experience who has taken the controls of dozens of aircraft types. Another pilot who will take to the skies this year is Dr. Frank Donnelly of San Dimas, with his refurbished 1946 Taylorcraft. A retired psychology professor from Azusa Pacific University, Donnelly brings old-time aerobatics to the show. NEXT PAGE >>> |
