Make memories etched in images The best compliment I ever received for the boatload of photographs I take of the family came shortly after the new year. The photographer I most admire told me that our Christmas card – a photo of my three boys running down a sand dune – would be the one his family keeps forever. That particular photograph moved me enough to finally finish my first book; it became the image on the cover. So now we have our first annual OC Family & Inland Empire Family Magazine’s Family Photo Contest, of which you are invited to participate. Why? I’ve always been intrigued with photo contests not only because the art is something I admire, but the entries also reflect the readership. We have carefully defined the categories of this photo contest to define who we reach – families with babies; with the early years; with the middle years; and with the teen years. And, families as families. There are five categories in all. We hope that you drop everything and go online to participate. Enter a photo or two that best reflects the life you live at home. It should be the photo you might send as a holiday card, or one you would feel proud to put on the cover of your first, or next, book. We have purposely extended the deadline through summer; this gives families an opportunity to take the drop-dead photo during summer vacation, when the kids, the clouds, the sun and the landscape often seem to perfectly match. We will print the winners and the honorable mention photographers in our December issues of OC Family and Inland Empire Family magazines. The winners earn prizes.
