My advice to my Little League-playing 9-year-olds is to keep your head down on a home run and only raise your hand for a quick wave to the crowd. "Why, daddy?" one of them has asked. "Because you want to be humble when you are at your best, and, you want to hit another home run." In baseball, it's about perfecting the swing; in publishing family magazines in Orange County and the Inland Empire, it's about spending only a moment on the wave to the crowd. The rest of the time, a relentless drive to be better. And becoming better these days means involving you, the reader. "User-generated content" is the new phrase. Defined in three words? "You, you, you." As you will see in the following pages, our magazines have just received several of the most prestigious writing, design and special category awards in the country. We've brought you the best family content in America. In this new era, you will be invited along to be an active part of the journey. Here's how: Photo contest goes monthly! Following in the shutter clicks of our successful, first-ever Family Photo Contest that ran last December, we've launched a monthly version for you to upload and share. If you click here you will see details on how to enter the contest. The winner and honorable mention choices are automatically entered into our annual contest. Our decision to create a monthly photo contest comes from the fact that millions of Americans are taking billions of photos each year. And their favorite subjects are their children. As with our Kid Quips, this user-generated section will rise to the level of your expertise. Good luck.
