Bee Movie (rated PG; March 11; ages 5-adult): Jerry Seinfeld leads a voice cast as Barry, a bee who wants more out of life than working inside the hive. A chance encounter with a human (Renee Zellweger) leads to Barry taking on mankind and our fancy to honey. This computer-animated hit from last fall is a honey of a movie. Grade: A Dennis the Menace: Trouble, Trouble Everywhere (not rated; March 18; ages 3-6): These 7 cheaply produced episodes from the mid-’80s TV series send the blonde jinx to Venice, Sydney, Spain, South America and Hawaii, proving that wherever Dennis goes, trouble follows. Grade: C- Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (rated G; March 4; ages 5-12): This Christmas turkey stars Dustin Hoffman as the Willy Wonka of toy stores. The eccentric, 243-year-old man plans for retirement by bequeathing the store to his insecure and loyal underling (Natalie Portman). Like lead-based toys from China, this movie needs to be recalled. Grade: D The Seeker (rated PG; March 18; ages 8-13): The middling fantasy adventure based on Susan Cooper’s “The Dark is Rising” book series centers on 14-year-old Will Stanton (Alexander Ludwig), who learns he is the last of a group of time-traveling warriors dedicated to fighting evil forces. Grade: B- – By David Dickstein |
