Be The Match Foundation is hosting a Bone Marrow Registry Drive on Saturday, December 1 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Rock Honda Dealership in Fontana. Registrants are helping to find a possible bone marrow match for two 5-year-old Inland Empire residents, Marcus Smith from Fontana and Armani Trice from Moreno Valley; in addition to the tens of thousands of others currently on the waiting list.
Marcus and Armani were both diagnosed with life-threatening Leukemia in the past year and are in desperate need of bone marrow transplants in an effort to cure their debilitating illnesses. Marcus’s mother, Antoinette “Toni” Smith, is a single mom of three. Between the countless hours spent at the hospital along with taking care of her children and her mother with dementia at home, her continued faith that Marcus will find a match is inspiring. As of now, Marcus is battling severe fevers and will be spending Thanksgiving in the hospital.
The bone marrow registry drive on December 1 takes ten minutes and consists of filling out a few forms and completing a quick cheek swab. Be The Match is asking for donor registrants between the ages of 18 and 44. Golden Island Jerky will provide free jerky to anyone who donates financially or registers as a donor.
